Advocacy

Join JRS/USA in advocating for just policies that welcome refugees and other forcibly displaced people.

Use your voice to advocate for refugees.

Change begins with awareness—and action. Join Jesuit Refugee Service/USA in shaping U.S. policies that protect the dignity and rights of displaced people worldwide.

At JRS/USA, advocacy is one of the three core pillars of our mission—alongside accompaniment and service. We work to influence U.S. policy so that refugee rights are protected, humanitarian aid is prioritized, and all people forced to flee are treated with dignity. Rooted in Catholic social teaching and powered by people like you, our advocacy transforms compassion into action.

What We Advocate For

JRS/USA engages policymakers to promote:

  • Access to asylum and protection at U.S. borders

  • A robust and just U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP)

  • Overseas refugee assistance programs that provide education, shelter, and emergency aid

  • Legal pathways and protections for immigrant religious workers

  • Faith-based humanitarian leadership from the U.S. government

  • Policies rooted in human dignity, justice, and the common good

Through advocacy rooted in lived experience and programmatic expertise, we urge our leaders to implement solutions that are humane, lawful, and effective.

(Advocacy work) is not linear. We don't have the luxury of weariness. This means we might not always see the fruit of our work but hope is found in the process and the people you meet along the way.
