Interview with JRS International Director, Peter Balleis, S.J.

(Rome) June 20, 2010 — There are also urban refugees in Rome and in many cities in Europe. In Rome, the Centro Astalli has assisted urban refugees since 1981. Thousands were living in the streets so the founder of JRS, Father Pedro Arrupe, at that time Superior General, encouraged the Jesuits to start a center, where the Il Gesù church is, the first big famous church of the Jesuits.

The refugees found a new home, a home in that sense that they could get the meal, and still can every day.
