(Washington, DC) On September 14, the work that JRS/USA and our partner, APCO Worldwide, did on Lampedusa: Concerts for Refugees was recognized by PR News with a “Platinum PR Award” for a diversity and inclusion campaign.

Last year, APCO took on JRS/USA as a pro bono partner, supporting all aspects of communications for Lampedusa.

As our JRS/USA friends and supporters know, last year’s Lampedusa tour – an 11-stop concert tour featuring Grammy Award-winning artists Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Joan Baez, Buddy Miller, Robert Plant, The Milk Carton Kids and other special guests – and its communications had significant raising awareness for refugees and funds for JRS’s Global Education Initiative.

Due in large part to APCO’s efforts, the concert generated significant, positive local and national media coverage. The concerts and key messages were reported in top international publications. In total, Lampedusa has generated more than 320 million media impressions globally (more than 80 separate articles) including articles in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, The Daily Mail, The Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, Huffington Post, CTV Toronto, Elle Magazine, Boston Globe and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

JRS/USA congratulations APCO on this remarkable award and continues to be grateful for their commitment to supporting refugees and refugee education.

The tour heads to the West Coast Oct 3-15. Click here to see if we’re coming to a city near you.
