Washington, D.C., 3 November 2017— As a part of the JRS mission to accompany and to serve, we also advocate for the rights of refugees and migrants around the world.

We often take action on Capitol Hill to advocate for policies and programs that will benefit the lives of those impacted by displacement. During our October Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill we met with key appropriations and foreign policy decision-makers who needed to hear from voters about the importance of U.S. leadership on refugee issues. This kind of activism makes a significant and lasting difference in the lives of refugees as they heal, learn, and thrive.

You can also participate in advocating, by letting your legislators know that you support refugees.

Here are three items you can take action on right now:

  • Help Increase Access to Education for Refugees: Tell your Representative and Senators to support the “Protecting Girls’ Access to Education in Vulnerable Settings Act.” The bill will help ensure displaced children throughout the world have access to primary and secondary education.
  • Oppose Harmful Executive Orders: Urge President Trump and his Administration to rescind policies that are not welcoming of refugees and those seeking safety and security in the United States.
  • Protect U.S. Humanitarian Assistance for Refugees: Urge your elected officials to support critical humanitarian and development programs that serve refugees through the Federal budget.
