World Humanitarian Day is a global celebration of people helping people. This year's campaign theme — I Was Here — is about making your mark by doing something good, somewhere, for someone else.
Jesuit Refugee Service Eastern Africa celebrates the day by highlighting the tireless work of JRS staff members, including refugee incentive staff, to accompany refugees in our different projects, whether they are located in camps or in urban settings. For JRS, the essence of accompaniment is simply 'being present with' and listening to those who have been forcibly displaced, allowing space for mutual sharing, comfort and often prayer.
