Voices of Faith celebrating International Women’s Day

(Rome) March 1, 2016 — Voices of Faith and Jesuit Refugee Service invite you to learn more about the Third Voices of Faith female storytelling festival and this year's motto “Mercy requires Courage.” 

A partnership between Voices of Faith and JRS based on common values centered on the importance of education at large, particularly for females, will be officially announced at the press conference Friday. Education is a fundamental key in improving the social and economic situation for women and their families.

During this event, the partnership between Voices of Faith and JRS based on their common values will officially be announced: The importance of education at large, particularly for females. Education is a fundamental key in improving the social and economic situation for women and their families.

This press conference precedes the well-known Voices of Faith storytelling event on March, 8 International Women's Day, with high profile speakers and panelists with various extraordinary backgrounds. The women origin from various countries such as the Philippines, Kenya, Germany, DR Congo, Hong Kong, the US, India and the Czech Republic. They all have made a huge difference for their societies and in the life of the poor and marginalized.

“I'm excited and grateful to attend this year's Voices of Faith storytelling event on International Women's Day, March 8, at the Vatican,” said JRS International Director Fr. Thomas H Smolich S.J. A multi-generational panel of Catholic women, moderated by Fr Smolich, will also discuss expanding the leadership of women in the Catholic Church. The speakers at the Friday press conference are:

Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, a former child laborer from the Philippines, now President of the Visayan Forum Foundation,which addresses modern-day slavery,

Merci, a young woman from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who grew up in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi, now studying economics at the Laval University in Quebec City.

Chantal Götz, Founder of the Voices of Faith initiative and executive Director of the Fidel Götz Foundation,

Rev Joaquin Martinez S.J., International Education Coordinator of JRS.
