Global Campaign for Migrants and Refugees Kicks-Off

Today, Pope Francis, bishops, and Catholic leaders around the world have launched a global campaign to support those who have been forced to flee their homes and seek a safe home for their families. This historic campaign will respond to those who need our help most — refugees and migrants.

Through this campaign, the Catholic Church hopes to dispel widespread fear of newcomers and to raise awareness of why so many people are compelled to leave their homes at this time in history. We want to inspire communities to build relationships with refugees and immigrants, and to love their around the world.

In his statement, Pope Francis  says that providing aid to migrants and refugees is a "great responsibility, which the Church intends to share with all believers and men and women of good will, who are called to respond to the many challenges of contemporary migration with generosity, promptness, wisdom and foresight, each according to their own abilities." Through the Share the Journey campaign the Holy Father calls us to act in four ways:  welcome, protect, promote and integrate (click here for full statement). These four verbs speak truth to the focus of our work at Jesuit Refugee Service to help those we serve to heal, learn, and thrive.

“JRS/USA is proud to participate in the Share the Journey campaign,” says David Robinson, JRS/USA Executive Director. “It is critical that all of us who are part of the Church community come together to serve, advocate, and accompany our brothers and sisters who have been forced to flee their homes."

JRS/USA will kick-off the campaign by participating in a panel discussion at Georgetown University this evening. Click here to RSVP and learn more.

If you’re looking for a way to get your community involved and respond to Pope Francis’s call check out our Refugee Simulation. Click here to learn more.

There are also opportunities to engage your parish and local community through JRS partners at

The coming months offer a unique opportunity to advocate and support the concrete actions the Pope described in four verbs. We, as well as Pope Francis, invite you to use every occasion to share this message.
