Restore Vital Education Programs for Refugees

Restore Refugee Education Programs: Act Now

US-funded education programs for refugees have been abruptly terminated, leaving thousands of displaced children and youth without access to learning. Among those affected is a highly successful program in Chad, run by JRS/USA and funded by the US Department of State. Without urgent action, these closures will strip vulnerable communities of the structure, safety, and opportunities education provides.

Education is more than learning—it’s protection. Schools help prevent trafficking, exploitation, and gender-based violence. Education and training programs equip refugees with skills for self-reliance, reducing cycles of poverty and displacement. Without these programs, entire communities face greater instability, and global security is put at risk.

The US has long been a leader in supporting refugee education, and it must continue to uphold this commitment. We urge the White House and Congress to restore these vital programs and fully implement the US Government Strategy on International Basic Education (2024-2029) as required by the READ Reauthorization Act.

How You Can Help:

    • Contact your representatives and urge them to restore refugee education programs through USAID and the U.S. Department of State (DOS/PRM).
    • Advocate for full implementation of the US Government Strategy on International Basic Education (2024-2029).
    • Spread the word to ensure education remains a priority for displaced children and families
